    If cultural behavior has shifted as a result of the introduction of phones, then in what way refusing to engage in that behavior going to culturally shift everyone else back to the by-gone ways and days? Self isolationism is no solution.

    nobody is forcing you to ride in a car either, just try taking your horse and buggy across LA to get to work. Technology makes things cheaper and more convenient, but not usually better, ever looked at old tin-type photos? You can’t tell me iphone snapshots look nicer. The world is shaped, and we usually have to keep up if we want to remain economically viable. It’s nearly impossible not to have a cellphone if you want to have a job.

      I beg to differ Mister Anono. It is VERY possible to have a job without a cell phone. To quote what you had said, “Nobody is forcing you to ride in a car either….”, exactly so you can’t be forced to own a cell phone to have a job or acquire one in the first place. I also don’t have a phone, just a home phone, that is barely used except to call local friends and family. Just like back in the day. It’s amazing how many people like you are ‘culturally-shifted’ (LOL, I’m using that quote from another user above these comments) to believe that we just can’t go on as a society if in fact technology ceases to exist! Ha, isn’t that a shame? So, you mean to tell me that we’re not so intelligent anymore, because if ever this world is attacked or destroyed and there are survivors (which there will definitely be), that they wouldn’t be able to make it because they don’t have their Starbucks coffee and their stupid little iphone. Please, man, get with the program. I’m 28 and find that not having a cell phone is a huge stress reliever and allows me to live normally again, worry-free and peaceful.

      Also, I know how to survive if that ever happened. But, unfortunately, people like you wouldn’t have Google anymore and you wouldn’t be able to ask it: How to survive after a world disaster / or how to rebuild civilization one person at a time. LOL Isn’t that crazy? You probably treat Google like God, most people do. That’s sad. Honestly, that’s more sad than people like me believing in a supernatural God! At least mine is unknown and yet a mystery while anyone can put a computer together and reach the internet. Woo-hoo, how spiritual that must be!

Excellent. Except the waiting part. I think people have a memory block at how weird and uncomfortable it was to wait around with nothing to do surrounded by people who are obviously more interesting and popular than you… wait… was that just me?

You don’t have to be like that and hang around people who are like that. Control the situation yourself and your own habits and life will continue to be great. You will also stand out from the crowd for being more engaged in real life, more aware of your surroundings, better memory skills and much more self assured. Very attractive qualities that lead to so many more positive opportunities.
